ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jodi L. McMaster

Jodi McMaster is the author of Circus Vowels: The Long and the Short of It and the creator of the Interactive Circus Vowels Reading Kit. When Jodi began as an elementary teacher over 20 years ago, she started noticing a huge problem when teaching students how to read. “The current way we are teaching children to read is wrong. We are making it too hard and giving children too many strategies to remember in the process,” Jodi has stated.

From this point, she decided to create reading strategies that are simple to teach, fun to learn, and have successful outcomes. The reading strategies Jodi developed empower beginning and struggling readers to look at a word and know exactly which vowel will make which sound solely based on one reading strategy that can be applied differently to all the vowel/consonant combinations. (cvc, cvcv, cvvc, cvccvc)

The proof is in the puddling! According to her 1st-grade students’ NWEA test scores for the past five years, they have made 2 years of reading growth in one school year. However, don’t take her word for it, try it yourself with your personal children or in a classroom setting. You will be amazed by the children’s reading proficiency after teaching the reading strategies taught in Circus Vowels.

The interactive Circus Vowels reading strategies have been featured on numerous News Channels, including Mom is a Genius on ABC’s Channel 7, Full Plate on ABC’s Channel 13, and many more. She has also presented these strategies at several reading conferences, including the International Reading Conference. Additionally, Jodi was spotlighted in Eastern Michigan University’s magazine in an article titled, A Pinch for Good Reading
